How to install .deb files on Nokia N9 - Meego Harmattan 1.2

There are basically two ways to install Apps / Games on MeeGo - Nokia N9.
  1. Installation via Terminal (Complex)
  2. Installation via File Manager (Easy)

  • Installation via Terminal:
Enable "Developer Mode" (Settings-Security-developer mode)
"Installations allow strangers from sources" (not Ovi) activate (Settings-Programs-installations)
Open Terminal

ssh root@localhost – enter
Password: rootme
dpkg-i filename.deb

  • Installation via File Manager:
As we already know that Nokia N9 isn't equipped with any file manager app by default, so you would require to follow certain steps below:

Tap “Settings” launcher on your home screen.
1. In the Settings, Go to “Applications”
2. Then choose “Installations”
3. Now turn-on “Allow installations from non-store sources”
4. Click “I agree” to proceed.

Now you are required to download and install file manager from the list below:
  Quad File Manager.rar

Send the .deb installation package to your Nokia N9 via your PC and open it using any one of the file manager app located above.

Installation Package not Found Error
If you are facing an above mentioned error while installing .deb installation packages, you probably need to rename them to a shorter name without spaces, for instance a game renamed like ( 1.2.deb should be renamed to Roboto.deb, following this method would help you to eliminate "installation package not found" error on Nokia N9 MeeGo Smart Phone.
